The Celtic Cross Spread

This is the Traditional Spread in it’s purest form. The pattern of the layout brings to mind the Catholic cross, and it is difficult to tell what influence (if any) that would have.

This spread is probably used more than any other. Particularly among students. Mystical schools and metaphysical societies nearly all begin instruction for Tarot using this spread. There are always variations to this layout and you may find yourself making or sensing changes that make more sense to you. As a place to begin learning Tarot this is the spread to learn and use.

1) Present situation. This position indicates the current set of affairs. It brings to the front the current standing and issues for the reading - 1 week.

2) Obstacles and annoyances - 1 week.

​

3) Issues that you are currently thinking about. What is on your mind.

​

4) Where you will be in the intermediate future - 2 months.

​

5) Immediate past. Issues concerning the last 3-4 months. The past.

​

6) Immediate future. The next issue that will confront you - 2 weeks.

7) The Answer to the Question.

8) Outside influences. The actions of those around you - 30 days.

9) Hopes and Fears. What you really want - 30 days.
